The open-source philosophy is about more than software. Anyone who wishes to use, redistribute, adapt, or improve the code can do so without permission or payment of any kind. In contrast, open-source software is developed collaboratively, often by volunteers, and made available for free. ![]() We've also heard of couples taking the rings to guests who can't make the wedding - for example, elderly grandparents - to be "warmed up" in the days and weeks before the wedding, which we think is such a sweet idea! We've got a full feature on ring-warming rituals, which you'll find here. In some ceremonies, the rings are only "warmed up" by certain guests, family members or the wedding party, for example. Religious guests can be encouraged to say a silent prayer, making this another good option for merging religious and secular customs. Each guest holds the rings in their hands for a moment and sets an intention or wish for the couple. Before the rings are exchanged, they're passed around the congregation to be "warmed up" by the guests. Some couples ask members of their family to get involved by adding more containers of sand, symbolising the joining of two families. Some couples take the sand from beaches near where they grew up or beaches that are particularly special to them, while others use colourful sand to create a decorative item they can then display in their home. The Sand-Pouring RitualĪ variation on the candle-lighting ritual mentioned above, the sand-pouring ritual finds the couple pouring sand from two individual containers into a single vase or vessel to symbolise their union. The ritual finds the couple (or sometimes their parents) lighting a common candle (sometimes called a Unity candle) from two individual candles, symbolising their union. This popular ritual is often included in Christian, Catholic and other religious wedding ceremonies, so it might be a good one include if you're having a secular ceremony, but would like to add a familiar element for religious family members, which can often make them feel more included. ![]() Photo by The Portrait Room via One Fab Day 3. Most of my tracks revolve around cinematic & orchestral instruments and I have to say that Komplete Ultimate's Symphony Essentials are way better deal than Live's packs for me. NI on this one and I only tend to use NI's percussion more because of Komplete Kontrol (more on HW later). I don't have a good opinion on Ableton vs. Live's drum racks are more handy when it comes to percussion but Komplete's Drublab is very nice and straightforward to use. What about percussion? Komplete has it all but so does Live Suite. Well, there's OSCiLLOT for Max – a modular synth – but it's nowhere as polished and easy to use. Monark and Absynth are both great starting points but I love the included Reaktor with blocks which allows you to tinker with synth until your CPU barfs up. Komplete 11 is a superb library of all things imaginable, focused on synths. Some have instrument presets, some have samples, some have midi tracks. Ableton Packs don't give any feeling of organization, it's like someone dumped a bunch of files and called it a day. ![]() You can have lots of fun with Analog, tweaking it for hours, but when you have a rough idea it's not that easy to quickly find an instrument for it. What about the actual instruments, though? That's the part where I found Live slightly less intuitive as compared to Garageband / Logic. If you go standard think of investing into Max too. I have a bunch of max configurations that I use daily, from re-mapping aftertouch to vibrato on my strings instrument to quick chord generators built into Live. One thing that I find crucial to my workflow is Max for Live (free in Suite, payed upgrade in Standard). I'd say that Analog and Sampler are my favorites in terms of what Suite can provide you out of the box, but it depends on your use of VSTs (more on that in Komplete section later). Live standard comes with the basic instruments and you have an option to buy the other ones individually. That's why there are so many different DAWs on the market too – each fitted for particular scenarios. Your DAW is the instrument you're going to spend the most time in and the flexibility of it matters a lot. I've found the simpler editions as limiting as garageband from which I tried to move away. ![]() ![]() I hope my summary will help you.Ībleton Live is definitely something you'd want to upgrade to at least standard. ![]() I've got both so let me point out pros and cons of owning each of those. TLDR: Have money to either upgrade Komplete Select 11 to Komplete 11, or buy Ableton Suite but want the best soundbank I can get at the moment and am uncertain as to how good Ableton's is. I've heard I can integrate Maschine into Ableton (i do own Live Lite 9) and was wondering if I should just upgrade Komplete and route it to Ableton Live Lite 9 or just use Ableton? Any input would be great, especially from those primarily using selections from Ableton Suite's 70gb of sounds or owners of Komplete 11. As much as I love Maschine, as someone who used a lot of Garageband in the past, and Cubasis on iPad, Ableton seems much cleaner in organizing music and if Suite's sound bank is world's better than Maschine I don't mind moving over completely to Ableton. I'm wondering if the sound banks provided in Ableton Suite are good all-around or if I should just take the money and use it on upping Komplete. One thing I like, if I'm going to spend the money, is having a decent soundbank so I can get most of my ideas at least partially fleshed out without a ton of tweaking. I am in a position where I can purchase either Suite or upgrade my Komplete Select 11 to Komplete 11. I have been curious about Ableton for some time and am trying to get as much time in with the demo as possible, but it's a bit difficult at the moment due to taking Spring courses and the shorter semester leaves me with more work per week. |
